What We're Doing
CREATING AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART, SCHOLARSHIP & ACTIVISM
We develop engaging interdisciplinary performance work for theatres and alternative spaces.

We have a specific interest in female-identifying stories and a desire to generate work about and alongside communities.

Our practice is sometimes text-to-stage, sometimes process-based and curatorial, combining elements of theatre, dance, film, soundscape and installation.
Our Guiding Principles
THE VALUES THAT INFORM OUR WORK
We believe that performance art should make people think
make them ask questions, reconsider their perspectives and biases, and drive them towards action
We believe that performance art should unite
empower diverse voices, bring people together, build new communities, and foster feelings of inclusion and belonging
We wish to develop work with an impact
through academic research, personal encounters, auto-ethnographic approaches and interdisciplinary exploration
We wish to develop work that communicates true stories and experiences

with honesty, integrity, and intention
We maintain that performance art can take a variety of forms
We are interested in creating across a broad spectrum of styles and genres. Our current focus is on curatorial, installation and community-based work, as well as work in alternative spaces
01
By the Light of the Moon 2019-2023
We find Lila alone in a hospital for the criminally insane in 1928. Abandoned by her family, society, and her only friend in the asylum, she is forced to face her deepest secrets and the dark reality of the events leading up to her imprisonment.
02
Behind Glass
2019
An auto-ethnographic performance work
that uses movement, spoken word poetry, soundscape and audience engagement to explore questions of identity.
Inspired by "grab her by the pussy" politics, the murder of Lyra McKee and the daily frustration of conflicting and unachievable societal expectations, the piece gives audiences an intimate glimpse into the mind of a silent woman with a lot to say.
03
The Sonnet Response Series
2020
154 participants transform Shakespeare’s sonnets into personal, interdisciplinary creative acts.
The work is interested in exploring how to link individuals and communities in isolation and how to generate creative work outside of our typical models of in-person rehearsal and collaboration, grounding participants in a global artistic community and encouraging the creation of new work in crisis.
04
Choreography Confined
2020
An experiment in movement, shared experiences and shifting perspectives, offering opportunities for creative exploration working with, rather than against, spacial constraints.

The product of a two-week devised collaboration project resulting in an award-winning dance film.
05
The Ivy Days

Doorstep Dances
2021
Performers from around the world use Indigo Arts Collective workshops to develop their own dance compositions set entirely in doorways.
The project raised funds for Dancers Responding to AIDS as part of their efforts to provide essential meals for people across the United States affected by COVID-19, HIV/AID and other life-threatening illnesses.
07
to the point of disappearance
2021
an interdisciplinary live art installation series which examines the historical incarceration of unwed Mothers in Ireland, the fates of their children and the contemporary implications of this history.
Through the use of soundscape, moving image projection, mixed media installation and live performance, the gallery allows audiences to step into the haunting realities of these institutions and their lasting effects on individuals and communities.
08

The Midnight Run is a walking, arts-filled, night-time cultural journey through urban spaces created by Inua Ellams. It gathers strangers and local artists together to explore, play and create, whilst the city sleeps. The Midnight Run aims to break down social barriers and provide a platform for established and emerging creatives, bringing moments of genuine interactive creativity.
